About Char
Wanting to expand my offerings beyond visual design to people and causes, I began my own journey back to my body in order to learn the Philippine indigenous art of ablon. Through my time as a student of Manursuro Virgil Mayor Apostol, I was able to chip away at the limiting beliefs I carried as a product of years and generations of colonial, rationalism-obsessed, binary, and conformist programming.
At the heart of my reindigenizing journey is self-sovereignty, radical self-acceptance, the rebalancing of individuality with oneness, and returning to our authentic flow. I believe that liberation of the self and the return to body is essential to the liberation of the people and land sovereignty.
Char’s Journey
For a long time, I thought being a rad diasporic Filipinx artist for collective liberation was all that was in store for me. Then, an inexplicable confidence encouraged me to undergo Manursuro Virgil M. Apostol’s ablon intensive. How I understood reality and myself fundamentally changed. Upon my return home, my friend described how I felt better than I could:
“You’re spiritually bursting at the seems.”
This jumpstarted what many know as ego death (guuuurl that shit was painful. You can read my poetic rant about it). I began to individuate, reclaim my sovereignty and power through shadow work, and navigate consciousness and metacognition.
I fell further in love with my ancestral culture, Mother Earth, all things magick and metaphysics, their intersection with or expression through math, science, and tech, their implications towards the development of a better world, and humanity’s limitless potential.
My relationship with the infinite expanded, and I began to see deities, gods, and beings of lore from across traditions and beyond linear time. Through their guidance, I continue transforming and unfolding into my full, beautifully chaotic humanity. Every day, they teach me something new or lead me to experiences that help me embody my purpose:
To behold the beauty of all that is, and share this beauty with others.
